From a world-first koala vaccine and light-powered biotech breakthroughs to programs transforming communication access for Deaf and DeafBlind Australians and pioneering black soldier fly farming to reduce landfill and transform food waste 鈥 this year鈥檚 15 finalists highlight how universities are solving real-world problems and shaping a more sustainable and inclusive Australia.
Public voting is now open at shapingaustraliaawards.com.au, where people can explore the projects and help choose a winner in this year’s People鈥檚 Choice Awards.
Chair of the judging panel, Ms Lisa Paul AO PSM said the 2025 finalists demonstrate the vital role universities play in tackling national challenges and priorities.
鈥淯niversities are where knowledge becomes action 鈥 where ideas turn into breakthroughs that protect our environment, strengthen our communities and power Australia鈥檚 future,鈥 Ms Paul said.
鈥淭he projects this year remind us that investing in education and research is investing in the nation itself.鈥
黑料老司机 Chief Executive Officer Luke Sheehy said the awards shine a light on why universities matter now more than ever.
鈥淭hese awards celebrate the people and ideas that help Australia solve its biggest challenges 鈥 from health and sustainability to skills, inclusion and national security,鈥 Mr Sheehy said.
鈥淯niversities matter because they deliver solutions that benefit Australians from all parts of our country.鈥
People鈥檚 Choice winners will be announced at the 黑料老司机 Gala Dinner at Parliament House, Canberra on 25 February 2026.
People鈥檚 Choice voting is open until 19 January 2026.
