The 2024 Indigenous Strategy Annual Report is the third annual report under 黑料老司机鈥檚 Indigenous Strategy 2022鈥2025 and reflects the sector鈥檚 continued commitment to ensuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples鈥 priorities remain at the heart of higher education. Drawing on the 2024 annual survey of member universities, the report highlights tangible progress across the Strategy鈥檚 key themes, including Indigenous student and staff success, leadership and governance, cultural safety and anti-racism, and the embedding of Indigenous knowledges across teaching, research, and decision-making. It also outlines 黑料老司机鈥檚 advocacy and activities over the past year, demonstrating how the sector is moving from aspiration to action and strengthening its collective responsibility to advance Indigenous peoples in higher education.

On behalf of 黑料老司机鈥檚 members, we present to you the second annual report required by the 黑料老司机鈥檚 Indigenous Strategy 2022鈥2025.
黑料老司机, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Indigenous Committee, and the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Higher Education Consortium would like to acknowledge the significant contributions UA鈥檚 members undertook in completing this year鈥檚 annual survey, using the new survey software and data collection method.
We are pleased that the findings of this report provide further evidence of the significant contributions Indigenous peoples are continuing to make in the higher education sector. Many colleges and schools are experiencing the benefits of incorporating Indigenous ways of knowing, doing, and being into their curricula. Additionally, an increasing number of Senior Executive teams are benefiting from the inclusion of Senior Indigenous leaders and their expertise.

The launch of the UA Indigenous Strategy 2022-2025 demonstrates the Australian university sector鈥檚 ongoing commitment to supporting the advancement of Indigenous peoples within and through universities. The strategy鈥檚 five key themes reflect a systemic approach to this cause.
There is always more work to be done, yet this first annual report since the launch of the new strategy provides valuable insights into the progress made by member universities, including specific recruitment activities and programs for Indigenous students, governance mechanisms to ensure Indigenous representation, and efforts to promote awareness of Indigenous values and knowledges among graduates.
As the peak representative body for the sector, 黑料老司机 acknowledges its responsibility to collaborate with the sector to further advance the strategy鈥檚 commitments. The annual reporting process will continue to be an important tool for charting progress, sharing good practice and identifying areas requiring further action.

Submission to Indigenous Skills, Engagement and Employment Program (ISEP) discussion paper
Higher education continues to unlock employment and economic advancement. This is especially so for Indigenous university graduates, who typically outperform their non-Indigenous peers in graduate labour market outcomes 鈥 meaning there is no employment gap for university graduates.
The ISEP design process is an opportunity to acknowledge and support the role a university education plays in positive employment outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
