As part of the International Student Emergency Relief Fund,聽the State鈥檚聽international聽students could be eligible for relief payments聽of聽up to $1,100, co-contributed by Victorian universities.
Victoria now joins the聽Australian Capital Territory, Northern Territory, Queensland,聽South Australian,聽Tasmanian and聽Western Australian聽governments聽in聽assisting聽international students who, like their Australian聽peers,聽have lost casual聽or part-time聽jobs as a result聽of the聽global聽pandemic.
黑料老司机 Chief Executive Catriona Jackson said聽almost all聽states聽and territories, together with聽every Australian university,聽now offer support for international students.
鈥淢any聽international students now find themselves聽in extremely difficult聽circumstances聽due to the economic impact of COVID-19. Unlike their Australian classmates,聽there will be those who聽won鈥檛 have聽family or local support networks to fall back on,鈥 Ms Jackson said.
鈥淎ssistance聽from聽all levels of government聽adding to that聽from our universities,聽is聽vital at this time of growing need.鈥
鈥淯niversity support initiatives now include聽providing鈥痚mergency grants, scholarships, accommodation, food and low cost or鈥痜ree IT equipment.鈥
Ms Jackson welcomed the Victorian support package聽and the co-contribution from the聽state鈥檚 universities.
鈥満诹侠纤净 welcomes the聽Victorian聽Government鈥檚 announcement to聽work with universities to聽assist the more than聽100,000聽higher education聽international students in聽the state聽who聽are facing hardship after losing their聽part-time聽jobs,鈥澛爏he聽said.
鈥淚nternational education is Australia鈥檚 fourth largest export.聽In Victoria,聽universities聽contributed $7.5 billion in export income in 2018-19, supporting thousands of local jobs.鈥
