The Australian Government today endorsed the higher education recommendations of the .
It has also endorsed the review鈥檚 proposed changes to vocational qualifications 鈥 which will be discussed with the States and Territories.
黑料老司机 Chief Executive Catriona Jackson said universities were pleased to see the Government鈥檚 endorsement of the recommendations.
鈥淭he aim of this review was really to bring the framework into the 21st century so it better aligns student skills and capabilities under each qualification type,鈥 she said.
鈥淚t鈥檚 not known widely enough that there are many pathways between VET and university courses, and students can build on skills gained in one system with a further qualification from the other.鈥
鈥淚f you have a diploma or certificate from TAFE, these qualifications could be recognised for credit towards a university degree.鈥
鈥淚n the future, many more Australians will take advantage of life-long learning, with some university and some VET study. It is encouraging to see policy settings revised with that flexibility in mind.鈥
Ms Jackson said it was crucial to Australia鈥檚 future to have two strong post-school education systems 鈥 higher education and vocational education 鈥 working in close alignment.
The review recommends a consultative process with both sectors ahead of implementing changes.
