The Australian National University’s Associate Professor Katerina Teaiwa was named the 2021 Australian University Teacher of the Year. The Career Achievement Award was won by the University of Tasmania’s Adjunct Professor John Biggs AM.

������˾�� Chair Professor John Dewar said educators leave a profound mark on students in their education journeys, and inspire the communities they serve.

“Our university communities are enriched by the bright ideas, knowledge and dedication higher education teaching staff bring to the classroom each and every day,” Professor Dewar said.

“Today is not only an opportunity to celebrate university teaching, but to recognise the remarkable resilience and adaptability university educators have shown while navigating exceptionally difficult circumstances.”

“As the nation faced lockdowns and restrictions, they were pivoting between different modes of teaching while finding innovative ways to deliver an optimal learning experience.”

“University teaching staff have gone above and beyond to support students through the pandemic. I want to thank them for inspiring students and for their dedication to teaching and learning over the course of their careers.”

“On behalf of university students, staff and fellow teaching colleagues, we congratulate all recipients of teaching awards and citations, and thank them for the passion and energy they exhibit for the benefit of those around them.”
