鈥淎ustralia鈥檚 universities are continuing to grow in strength and prominence,鈥 Ms Jackson said.
鈥淥ur world-class universities are playing a greater role in our region, and this is reflected in the latest rankings as Oceania finishes top of the class.
鈥淭oday鈥檚 results confirm what the thousands of staff and millions of students at Australia鈥檚 universities already know 鈥 that our higher education sector is a global leader in teaching and research.
鈥淭his is an outstanding achievement and much-deserved recognition of the role our universities play in a modern economy, especially after the challenges of the last few years.鈥
According to the rankings, Australia has seven universities in the world鈥檚 top 100, up from six last year, and 10 universities in the world鈥檚 top 200, making us the joint-5th most-represented country.
Thirty-seven Australian universities feature in the overall 2023 Rankings, forming the majority of the 46 universities ranked from the Oceania region.
Australia鈥檚 average overall score improved by nearly 1.2 points, spurring Oceania to the top spot.
Having increased by six points in as many years, the overall score of Australia has now almost equalled the overall score of the United States.
